How this is calculated
  1. Mowing time is lawn size ÷ 1,000 times your minutes per 1,000 sq ft.
  2. Service, obstacles and how often add their percentages to that time.
  3. All your time, including setup and driving, is paid at your hourly pay.
  4. Vehicle cost (miles times cost per mile) and supplies are added as costs.
  5. The business margin is a share of the final price: 20% margin on $100 of costs is $125.
  6. The range is 15% either side, rounded to $5.

Breakdown

Price your time, not the square footage

Time how long an open lawn takes you per 1,000 square feet, and price that time at the pay you want. A per-square-foot rate you got from someone else doesn’t know your mower, your crew or your area.

Let the service, obstacles and schedule change the time

Trimming and edging, beds and slopes, and longer grass between visits all add time. Set your own percentage for each, so the price moves with the work instead of with a guess.

Count drive time and mileage separately

Drive time is your time, paid at your hourly rate. Mileage is the truck: fuel and wear. Keep your time out of the per-mile cost so nothing is counted twice.

Quote recurring work per visit and per month

Customers on a weekly or every-2-weeks plan often think in monthly costs. Price each visit first, then multiply by visits per month: 52 or 26 a year, divided by 12.

Questions

Does this use market rates?

No. Every number comes from you: your mowing pace, your pay, your costs and your margin. The calculator only does the math.

How is the monthly price worked out?

Weekly service is 52 visits a year and every-2-weeks is 26, spread over 12 months. If you only mow part of the year, quote the monthly price for the mowing season or charge per visit.

Why are drive time and cost per mile separate?

Drive time is your time behind the wheel, paid at your hourly rate. Cost per mile is the vehicle only: fuel and wear. Keep your time out of the per-mile cost so it isn’t counted twice.

Why does every-2-weeks take longer per visit?

The grass has twice as long to grow, so each cut usually takes more time and more cleanup. Set the extra time from your own experience, or leave it at 0.

Is anything I enter saved?

No. Your numbers stay in this page and are gone when you leave it.
